Peppers have been grown for thousands of years, dating back before the birth of Christ, primarily in areas such as Central and South America, Mexico, and the West Indies. New Explorers introduced the pepper to the European Market, making the pepper a major ingredient in New World cuisine. By the early 17th century, peppers were grown throughout the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa.
