History
Alpine Strawberries have been eaten in the wild for centuries. They were first cultivated as a garden crop in Europe, and fell into obscurity when garden strawberries gained popularity. ‘Rugen’ was the first alpine strawberry developed. The American variety “Alexandria” is commonly available throughout the United States. It was introduced in 1964 by Park Seed.
