Taste & Nutritional Value
Had a traditionally lemony taste. High in antioxidants and low in calories, lemon balm is a healthy and nutritious herb to add to any dish.
A member of the Mint family, Lemon Balm is native to south-central Europe, the Mediterranean Basin, Iran, and Central Asia, and now is naturalized in the Americas and in other countries. The plant has been cultivated since the 16th century. Sources date the use of lemon balm for medicinal purposes back over 2000 years ago, started by the Greeks and Romans. It was introduced to North America with the arrival of colonists and records show that it was cultivated in Thomas Jefferson’s garden.
