Classic zesty flavor and aroma. Greek Oregano is high in antioxidants including Thymol, Carvacrol, Vitamin C and others.
Unsurprisingly, Greek Oregano was originally grown in Greece. It was believed to be created by the Goddess Aphrodite, who denoted it as a symbol of joy. The term Oregano comes from the Greek word oros as well as gonos, in entirety meaning “joy of the mountains”. The Romans helped spread the herb throughout Europe and Northern Africa. Historically, oregano has been used for medicinal purposes, to cure rheumatism, toothache, indigestion and coughing fits. After being naturalized in China, it was used to treat fever, vomiting and upset stomach. It was brought to the United States during World War II.
Oregano is especially fantastic in Greek and Italian food. Use this herb on pizzas, pastas, and on lemony potatoes.
